Chi Kung Classes at Waltja Center
Simon Burke-Lipiczky teaches a Chi Kung class in Troy.
Chi Kung (Qigong) is an ancient practice based on the natural expansion and contraction of the breath that drives the motions of the body. Like a water wheel turning by the constant flow of the river, physical activity is fueled by the constant flow of breath through the body. But in today’s fast-paced world, few people are aware of their breath or take advantage of the power accessible through it. As you practice Chi Kung, you will become more aware of the relationship of breath to energy, and you will be able use this energy to improve your efficiency in any physical pursuit. Classes meet Friday 12 noon- 1 p.m. at the Waltja Center , 157 1st Street.

Aikido
Instructor Simon Burke-Lipiczky currently teaches Aikido classes in Troy. Call 272-5408 for more information. Grounded in non-violence, Aikido is a unique martial art that focuses not on hitting, striking, or kicking, but on resolving a situation of conflict with the least possible harm to all people involved. Aikido uses the momentum of an attack to unbalance and throw the attacker. As a result, there is no need for great physical strength, speed, or flexibility. Instead the Aikido practitioner develops awareness and centering. This allows him or her to move with the attack. Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 225 4th Street (Judo of Japan) |

Have You Got Your Bag?
Market Block Books is trying to reduce their use of paper/plastic bags in order to be more environmentally friendly. When you make a large purchase,
MBB will ask you if you'd like a free canvas bag. MBB only asks that if you take one, you reuse it (for your Troy Farmers Market purchases, maybe?) or
return it to the store so that they can give it to someone else. If you have canvas bags that you don't use, please consider donating them to MBB so they
can circulate them throughout the community. Thanks for any help! If you have any questions. (Free canvas bags do not include the Book House/Market Block Books
bags that they sell--those are still $14.75, and very stylish!) |

POUNCE Update!
Free to a Good Home...
Downtown’s Kennedy Family alerted us to 5 kittens living with their parents in the backyard. The POUNCE crew mobilized & took the kittens to the vet. Two were adopted by the Park’s Laura Carew & 2 were placed by Historic Sage’s Deb Henderson. Before moving to their permanent placement with Laura, Etta & Otis spent 2 weeks in foster care (while Laura was on vacation) with the Park’s Peter & David Hamlin. The boys helped socialize the very scared little kittens. The mom cat was spayed, as were the rest of the colony.
POUNCE Graduates
Our regular spay/neuter clinic serviced 6 cats in June – 1 Third St; 1 Park; 4 Osgood. Volunteers & funds always needed. Thanks to Gail Lundstrum, Antoinette Sposito, Pat Melita, Barb McLean for the rescues. |
Free to a Good Home:
10 year old pure bred Maine Coone male cat, brown classic tabby, large paws & stature (BIG and beautiful) yellow green eyes, affectionate, used to other cats, indoor cat, well-cared for. Owner died, so needs a good home. In good health but lonely. Call Barbara at 274-1975 to arrange to interview him.
